I was invited along to L’Orangeraie to stay for a few days on our first visit back to Marrakech this year and what a delight it was to be back in my most favourite city in all the world. I love this place you can not beat it for culture, ambience and hospitality. We have been invited to stay at this wonderful boutique riad set within the Medina, first impressions as you arrive down a small alley on the outskirts of the Medina you think it could possibly be too noisy, but how wrong you would be.

The Bernard brothers Laurent and Cyril Bernard the owners of L’Orangeraie were occasional visitors to Marrakech, visiting for golf trips, but it wasn’t long before a love of Moroccan style made them permanent fixtures. the Bernard brothers bought a neglected riad from Marrakech’s influential Tigani family and transformed it into the elegant Riad L’Orangeraie.

This amazing riad is situated in the Mouassine district of the old Medina, a 5-minute stroll from the vibrant Djemaa El Fna and is certainly in a prime location. This luxury riad is within perfect walking distance to just about everything you could possibly require for either a short or long break in Marrakech. As I arrive I’m greeted and given Morrocan tea, again one of my favourites then shown to my room, the Ginger room a beautiful room, glazed in ivory “tadelakt” a bathroom with a bath and shower. This room has air conditioning, heating for those chilly evenings or if you have had a little too much sun and are feeling the cold in the evening. A safe which I do not have to paid extra for, this is one of my pet hates as everyone has a pssport and credit cards that perhaps they need to lock away while roaming in the souks, a hair dryer that actually dries my hair not just blows at it, Toiletries which smell delicious and complimentary wifi internet, allthis and with a view over the plunge pool looking out on to the garden, I share this view with the resident tortoise Valentino who is 14 years old and his friend Marina. This beautiful 7-room townhouse wraps itself elegantly around 2 expansive patios, one with fountains and aromatic flowers, the other with a mosaic swimming pool and steamy hammam. To top it off, it has an amazing roof terrace with views to the Atlas Mountains. pure heaven.I struggle to really find anything I dont like about this place, maybe because I love Marrakech or maybe because it has everything you would need on a short break to the Moroccan city of Marrakech. Most of everything you would want is here at your fingertips and if its not they will happily bring it to you, that is what I love about this city, nothing is too much trouble for them.I think what makes this amazing Riad so special is I felt so safe and as if I was being watched over by a family member and no matter what time day or night I knew they would be there at the other end of the phone for me. Thank you for having us stay with you it was a lovely experience and I will be sure to return again.
