This month Amigo Ovens are working with South County Magazine on our “Small Garden’s feature”. We show you how you can utilise a small back garden or yard all year round with a stylish and practical outdoor cooking area.
Amigo Ovens are manufacturers of hand made traditional wood fired pizza ovens and barbecues. Owner Jose’s family have been building these amazing ovens for years the family business started in a small village in the centre of Portugal back when cooking in traditional ovens was the only real way to cook.
Our Amigo Space
We decided to see how we could utilise the small space we had in our compact back garden.
You DO NOT need a huge garden to have one of these amazing ovens we have proved that.
We always used the BBQ even in the winter cooking fish, steaks and the like. We have been interested in the traditional oven for some time now. We wanted something the family could sit in front of while we were entertaining to keep us warm as well as a functional cooking oven to cook burgers, pizzas roasts, suckling pig, hot pots in. The great thing about the Amigo Oven is its not just functional but it looks great too providing a beautiful focal point and even doubles up as an outside fire this amazing oven ticked all the boxes.

Researching the pizza oven was no easy task though, we came across some very cheap versions and from our in-depth research have learnt that these seem to encounter endless problems. After a long and arduous research period we found that the company with the best customer service and endless positive results was Amigo Ovens, an independent family run company based in South London who really do prioritise customer service and always put your needs first. Amigo Ovens offer a bespoke service to suit your needs for home and work place. Alternatively you can buy off the shelf. They also build roofs, stands and plynths, anything related to your outdoor kitchen.
Jose’s Visit
We started by contacting Jose to arrange a visit, when he arrived he was full of great ideas and suggestions for what we thought was a tiny space. His years of experience and his family background meant he had great ideas for our small space. Not only did he design the cooking area he managed to include a workstation within the design to make it look like a real outside kitchen. He is truly passionate about his product and was happy to answer as many questions as we gave him, from cooking ideas, uses for the oven not just the building and design this is something we had not found previously with other companies.
The design of your outdoor cooking area should serve as an extension to your home, ensuring practicality as well as an aesthetically pleasing design, a space to use all year round not just during the summer. We saw some great examples of Amigo Ovens work on their Facebook page Amigo Ovens Ltd, where it would seem a lot of their customers now exchange recipes and pics of their cooking experiences.

To summarise our experience this oven is amazing, you can cook absolutely anything in it Bread, Pizzas, Roast Lamb, Pork, Beef even steaks, hotspots the list goes on and on.
