Vienna’s crowning jewel, the Grand Hotel Wien, was a delightful surprise for us. We had figured the property would be slightly tired and in need of a renovation, but we couldn’t have been more wrong. Whilst I wouldn’t describe the hotel as overly modern it has all the necessities you would expect from a 5 star hotel whilst staying true to its history. The 205 luxurious rooms and suites are decorated in a classical style. Our suite was gorgeous, well equipped and traditionally quintessential in design.
The legendary Grand Hotel Wien is located on the famous boulevard Wiener Ringstasse and a stones throw away from the Vienna State Opera. It’s central location makes navigating Vienna a breeze.
The property first opened its doors in 1870 and has been a meeting place for aristocrats, business people and artists from all over the world ever since. With a venue so rich in history setting foot in the lobby feels like being transported back in time.
Guest can enjoy culinary delights in four restaurants and two bars. A particular highlight is the Traditional Japanese restaurant Unkai which offers exquisite service and fascinating delicacies of the Japanese kitchen. Dishes like Sushi and Sashimi are prepared on the highest level. Various Bento boxes and Sushi sets are also offered for take away if guests would rather enjoy dinner in the privacy of their own rooms. The combination of excellent quality and he modern atmosphere makes it the ideal place for enthusiastic sushi lovers. We dined at the signature restaurant Le Ciel which offers a gorgeous view over the rooftops of Vienna, and were very pleased with the food. During the summer the restaurant opens its roof terrace where guests can sample the full a la carte menu or simply indulge in a cocktail.
Don’t miss a visit to the Grand Spa 605, located on the 6th floor of the house, where an oasis of tranquility and wellbeing awaits. The spa is equipped with sauna, steam bath and quiet zone, and has a separate women only area.
